Hunt Test & Field Trial Training
THE PROGRAM
Our hunt test and field trial program is built on a strong foundation and a balanced approach. We offer training & handling services across all levels of AKC hunt tests - including the Master National. Our young dog program for future field trial competitors moves dogs through foundational work, transition, and early advanced training with exposure to all-age concepts.
Progression and focus are shaped by each dog's ability and the owner's goals.
A Balanced Approach
at Every Level
Our Experience
Lauren Springer surpassed 1,000 career AKC Master passes in 2025 and was ranked the #1 AKC Master handler in the nation - the first female handler to achieve that distinction! She wrapped up the year with a successful Master National run.
Lauren handles and competes while Tim stays home and trains - so your dog's development isn't interrupted by the competition schedule.
Tim has been training retrievers professionally for 19 years. His background in Behavioral Psychology shapes an approach that is systematic, individualized, and effective across a wide range of breeds and temperaments. He has competed at every level of Hunt Tests and Field Trials throughout his career.
Our assistant training staff, led by Chad Granger, 14 years with Dynamic Retrievers, are a core part of what makes this program work.
Program Overview
Dogs typically enter the program around six months of age, though we can take older dogs. Early training builds confidence through foundational obedience before progressing into the formal hold and fetch commands.
From there, marks increase in distance, water work expands, live birds are introduced, and multiple marks are developed as marking mechanics sharpen. The obedient back command, casting, and whistle stop are layered in as the dog advances. Throughout, training is shaped by each dog's talent level and the owner's goals.
General progression timelines:
3 months - Basic hunting dog; Junior Hunt Test ready
6 months - Competent multiple marks; introductory blind retrieves
9 months - Senior Hunt Test competitive
12 months - Master Hunt Test competitive
Every dog is different. These are guidelines, not guarantees!
“They have trained & titled 4 of my young Goldens to upper-level AKC Hunt Test titles. My dogs are always happy, well cared for, and in excellent condition. Communication is consistently great. My dogs come home ready to work and continue their training.”
— Kathy, MissouriFrom Our Clients
“Ella and I were new to the hunt test game. They eagerly took on the challenge of training both of us to create a team. Lauren clearly communicates how to handle all situations so you can continue to train and grow. No question goes unanswered.”
— Bob, Minnesota“What sets Dynamic apart is the degree to which they truly love what they do, and the dogs they do it with. Seeing how happy their dogs are to go to work says it all. And that's because caring for the dogs they're entrusted with is JOB ONE at Dynamic.”
