A Reliable Hunting Dog Doesn't Happen by Accident.

Gun Dog & Obedience Training

Our gun dog program emphasizes building a genuine love for retrieving and birds, paired with solid obedience & control.

Most people don’t fully appreciate what a well-trained retriever is capable of - until they’ve seen one work.

Two Tracks,
One Finished Dog

Gun dog training at Dynamic Retrievers develops along two parallel categories that eventually come together. One builds the dog’s natural enthusiasm for the work. The other builds the control that makes their enthusiasm useful.

THE PROGRAM

Track 1
Prey Drive Development

This is the critical foundation for every great hunting dog. This track includes introduction to bird, marks, upland exposure, gun introduction, live birds, decoys, and other hunting scenarios that build a dog's natural enthusiasm for the work.

Track 2
Obedience & Control

Less exciting but equally important - covering obedience, e-collar conditioning, and the formal hold and fetch commands. For those that desire a more advanced dog, this can extend into whistle commands and hand signals for blind retrieves.

The result is a dog that is obedient yet enthusiastic - which is exactly
what a hunting dog needs to be.

THE TEAM

Trainers Who Hunt

Tim has been hunting waterfowl and upland birds for 41 years and working with hunting dogs for 36. Lauren has been an active hunter her entire life. Chad, our lead assistant trainer, is an avid waterfowl hunter as well. The people training your dog understand what hunting actually asks of a retriever.

Many clients bring us a young dog without a fixed direction in mind - the approach being, let's see what this dog is naturally good at, and decide from there. Whether that leads to hunting, hunt tests, field trials, or a combination, we're glad to help figure it out.

It's an approach that respects the dog, and we think it produces better outcomes.

Open-Minded Goals Welcome

We train a wide variety of retriever breeds, as well as English Cocker Spaniels. Breed matters less to us than the individual dog's drive, love of birds, and natural ability. We do not typically work with pointing breeds.

“My three Dyanamic-trained dogs have been able to do it all - Canada Geese in grain fields, Redheads in the surf, sharptails in brush country, late season roosters in heavy cover.”

— Doug, Duluth, MN - Dynamic Retrievers client for over 10 years
